DENVER, Colo. – Goodwill Industries of Denver is expanding its BankWork$® program to serve north Denver neighborhoods starting June 25. BankWork$® is a tuition-free eight-week program that provides a pathway to a successful career in the banking industry and helps graduates find jobs at local financial institutions. Every BankWork$® session culminates in a graduation ceremony and job fair where representatives from local banks interview graduates for current job openings. The impending session will be the eighth cohort Goodwill Industries of Denver has facilitated since August of 2016.
With an 81% job placement rate among graduates and an average hourly wage of $14.46 per hour, BankWork$® is changing lives from the inside out. “Through BankWork$®, I learned valuable skills such as how to build and develop relationships with customers as well as coworkers, how to empathize and see from other perspectives, and how to maintain my resolve in difficult or stressful situations,” said BankWork$® graduate Brandon Madrid. “I have a trajectory, I know where I want to go in life, and I am confident I can get there. None of this would have been possible without the BankWork$® program facilitated by Goodwill.” After graduating from BankWork$® in the fall of 2016, Madrid was hired as a Bank Teller at Wells Fargo. He just recently accepted a promotion as a Personal Banker.
Goodwill Industries of Denver is currently recruiting for students for the expanded summer session. For students located in the north side of the Denver metro area, classes will be held at Goodwill Denver Headquarters located at 6850 Federal Blvd. in Denver on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The program will also be taught concurrently at the training center inside the Goodwill retail store located at 15509 E. Iliff Ave. in Aurora on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both sessions will begin the week of June 25, 2018 and will conclude in a graduation ceremony on August 16, 2018 with the hiring event immediately following. Potential students can begin the application process by visiting goodwilldenver.org.
BankWork$® is the only financial training program in Colorado endorsed by the Colorado Bankers Association. Goodwill Industries of Denver would not be able to facilitate the program without the commitment and financial support of its growing list of partner banks. National, regional and community banks partnering with Goodwill include: Academy Bank, Bank of America, Bank of Denver, Bank of the West, Citywide, KeyBank, U.S. Bank, Vectra Bank, Wells Fargo, and Young Americans Bank.
BankWork$® was started in 2006 in Los Angeles by The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation in partnership with regional workforce development leader JVS Los Angeles. As part of a five-year $4 million national expansion in partnership with Bank of America, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, and the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation, the program will be in 12-15 markets by 2019.
