It's possible you've heard about or even been to one of our second hand stores. Denver Goodwill operates 23 retail stores, 16 standalone donation centers, 3 outlets, and 1 boutique. As one of the most well known thrift stores, our retail locations act as a hub for all of our community initiatives!
What's great about our numerous Denver Goodwill locations? Denver's retail operation alone employs more than 1,000 employees, 65% of whom are either disabled or disadvantaged – a huge benefit to the greater community. Goodwill is also a major community recycler, keeping nearly 74 million pounds of goods out of our landfills each year through donations received by our second hand stores. Denver gets to shop, support and save – and Goodwill is able to work towards ending the cycle of poverty.
Where Does the Money from Our Retail Operations Go?
We simply couldn't do it without our second-hand stores. Denver Goodwill uses the money raised from your shopping purchase to support 21,000 people in our community. This means that each year, the community shops at our Goodwill locations, Denver receives much-needed community assistance through Goodwill programs and as a result, the community is a stronger place to live, work and love.
Here's where your dollars go when you shop at a Goodwill Thrift Store:
- Our high school career development program, which employs teachers in 30 area high schools and helps 18,000 teenagers annually receive the education and training they need to get a good career.
- Overhead expenses for programs such as work options for the disabled and adult job training and placement that helps 3,200 adults each year gain the skills they need to get off welfare.
- To employ over 1,000 people in our community employed by our Goodwill retail stores who need this job to support themselves and their family. In fact, 75% of the people employed in Goodwill stores are either economically disadvantaged or disabled.
