For 125 years, Mile High United Way, the first United Way in the country, has been an effective and strategic leader known for bringing individuals, organizations and funding sources together to serve as a catalyst for social change.
Mile High United Way (MHUW) is one of Goodwill’s top philanthropic partners, generously supporting our Youth Career Development Program through a $75,000 annual investment in the program and through volunteer support. MHUW’s Emerging Leaders Council volunteers annually with Goodwill at East High School for our Daniels Fund Mock Scholarship interviews. Goodwill was honored to award Christine Benero, President and CEO of MHUW, our Community Leader Award at our 2009 Annual Luncheon.
Mile High United Way lives at the intersection of the private, public, philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, working with hundreds of local nonprofit partners, government agencies, policy-makers and businesses to deliver services in three key areas of investment:
1. School Readiness Initiative provides thousands of children from low-income families access to high-quality early education so they enter school ready to learn and read at grade level by the end of the third grade.
2. Youth Success Initiative provides thousands of school age, low-income and at-risk students access to mentoring, quality afterschool programs, tutoring, and dropout prevention and gang and violence intervention programs to ensure that they succeed academically and graduate from high school. This is the initiative that generously supports Goodwill’s Youth Career Development Program.
3. Adult Self-Sufficiency Initiative devotes resources to programs that help low-income people increase financial skills, develop workforce experience and move toward economic self-sufficiency.
Thank you Mile High United Way for serving our community for the past 125 years!
